With so much to see and die as a result daftar devil138 of, I still feel like I’m only scratching the surface of this monstrously sized expedition into the desert. But, despite the sizable journey ahead, one thing is for sure – I’m thoroughly enjoying the grind. Rory is a Senior Entertainment Editor at Tom’s Guide based in the UK.
Offers a sci-fi Civilization-like experience on a real life scale. We rank every game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise—including this week’s new game Assassin’s Creed Shadows—from worst to best based on Metascore.
From top websites to respected magazines, these notable game evaluation sources are where gamers turn for the best insights. Avowed is surprisingly combat heavy, especially in its second half. It’s possible to play with the usual array of melee weapons—swords, axes, spears, maces—but you’d be missing out on a lot if you’re not playing Avowed like 21st century Hexen, mixing powerful ranged attacks with down-and-dirty close quarters hacking. Every one-handed weapon can be dual-wielded, so I normally roamed with a grimoire in one hand and a fire-enchanted sword in the other, raining down elemental area of effect attacks on bears, bugs and lizardmen before sprinting in to hack away.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S adds new features exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s the best way to play the game yet – especially against others. Designed with younger players in mind, Disney Illusion Island is a colourful Metroidvania that’s devoid of combat. The color scheme comes from video games, where “orange” loot is often best, with purple, blue, and green tiered loot following.
I had one recent match that finished 5-4, with my team scoring a well-worked goal in Overtime to win the match. I was practically kneesliding across my living room as the net bulged. Curiously, Rematch takes a lot of cues from the new Rush mode introduced in EA Sports FC 25, which was one of the few things I really liked about the game. That might seem a pretty healthy playtime after around 10 months, but traditionally, at this stage in the season, I’d usually be well over the 120-hour mark in each year’s new installment in the annual soccer simulation series. Given the whole thing can be completed in a tight four hours – five if you take your time exploring, longer with a post-credits free-roam – it takes too long to find its groove, and the opening hour is deceptively simplistic and straightforward. To a T never quite gets a handle on whether it wants to show or tell, and later episodes are spectacularly surreal yet lean heavily on cutscenes.
This PC port shows us one of the best versions of the game to date. The iconic plumbers are back for their latest adventure since 2015, and their first one is on consoles. What could be their biggest adventure yet is also one that tends to drag more than it should.
Played entirely online, with each player controlling an individual avatar, Rematch is available in 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5 modes. While the middle option is presented as the default, I’ve found 3v3s to be the most engaging, as you always feel a part of the action, and can make game-defining moments regularly. But in 3v3s, you really can’t carry anybody, so you need a good team. As good as the Switch 2 is for local co-op in regular sessions of Split Fiction or Mario Kart World, Nintendo still hasn’t figured out what players want from online multiplayer. Playing games with online video and voice chat is hampered by subpar camera and mic capabilities. The Switch 2’s minuscule built-in microphone is supposed to pick up your voice even when you’re a good six to eight feet from the TV.
It’s not clear if player numbers will ever be revealed but we expect Fortnite to prove very popular on Nintendo’s new format. Although this spin-off from the Harvest Moon/Story Of Seasons franchise was out for the Switch 2’s launch it also released the same day on Switch 1 and PC. We haven’t played it, but we’ve never been impressed with the series and its attempts to mix farming with dungeon crawling – so both aspects are usually very shallow and repetitive. Maybe Guardians Of Azuma is different though, as it has four reviews on Metacritic, adding up to a score of 80. One of the best games ever made gets a mild remastering for the Switch 2, which ups the resolution and raises the frame rate to 60fps.
Here are the best upcoming games releases for you to look forward to in 2025, including games for PS5, Xbox Series X
Playing a graphics-intensive game like Cyberpunk 2077, we ran out of juice at exactly two hours. The Steam Deck OLED will do slightly better on battery life overall, but you’d have to look at $800 handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally X with its bigger battery capacity for anything better. Future versions of the Switch 2 may improve on battery life, but Nintendo would likely charge more for that, like they did with the Switch OLED. You can improve battery life by limiting refresh rate and HDR, but let’s be honest, most of us would prefer a higher-quality experience over playing for longer. If you’re noticing really poor battery life and think something might be up, you may need to put the Switch 2 into “recovery mode,” which should reset the battery indicator so that it’s actually accurate.

It’s common to turn a corner, or mount a crest, and bear witness to a perfectly framed vista that would have looked like overly ambitious concept art 10 years ago. Where Outlaws’ quest design really excels, though, is in taking seemingly innocuous side objectives and spinning them out into exciting, multi-staged adventures that regularly took me by surprise. One memorable example of this is the quest that sends you to find an upgrade part, but one thing leads to another – and another and another and another – and suddenly you’re emerging from a sarlacc’s maw and straight into an exciting escape from a huge sandworm. It’s the lively, left-turn stretches like these where Outlaws really shines by stringing together countless Star Wars references and Uncharted-style moments of spectacular action and adventure, and there are plenty of quests like this that I’ve undertaken so far. Given how I passed by plenty of sidequest opportunities that looked just as innocuous as this one at first glance, there are likely many more that I haven’t found yet, too. Yet at other times it was wildly unpredictable, like when I’d somehow trigger an alarm performing a stealth takedown even though it appeared that no one else was around. Instead, more often than I’d like my efforts to remain hidden would evaporate, things would get loud, and a number of other problems would present themselves.

2024 was a good year for popular game series making big returns. Tekken 8 kicked off the year — literally — with its newest installment, which we called an “incredible evolution for the series” thanks to some interesting changes made to the classic 3D fighter that breathes new life into the classic combat. Arrowhead Game Studios’ fun and hilarious shooter was the big breakout hit of the year, quickly enlisting millions of new recruits for its galactic space war. Even though it stumbled with some recent updates, it remains a massively popular game and PlayStation’s big live-service win of the year.
I don’t think Avowed’s combat could sustain my attention over the course of a linear, 15-hour action game, but as one of the main components in a story-led, exploration-rewarding RPG, it’s a lot more fun than I had dared hope for. I’ve been able to get it to the table a few times both as a player and as a Game Master. I’m happy to report that I enjoyed my experiences building and playing adventures in fantasy worlds with my friends. Like pretty much all online games released in the current era of gaming, Rematch’s launch isn’t the finish line; it’s really just the kick-off.
After initially releasing on PC and consoles, Balatro is now also available on mobile, which is where I’ve been playing this twisted little roguelike. While the bones of Balatro will be familiar to anyone with a cursory knowledge of poker, the ingenious modifiers and ways players can hit higher scores makes the lizard brain light up in delight and deserves all the praise it’s received this year. 2024 was another banner year for video games thanks to a slate of big releases, strong remakes, and surprising hits.
